Las similaridades y diferencias no hacen que existan más cosas que las propias cosas que son semejantes o diferentes. Y la existencia del cambio no hace que deban existir una serie de propiedades abstractas ejemplificándose en algo permanente, en algo que sea el sustrato del cambio...

Similarities and differences do not entail any other existence apart from the existence of the things that are alike or different. And the existence of change does not entail that some abstract properties have exemplifications in something permanent, something that is the last substrate of change...

P9 (Mirando al río / Looking at the River)

Miro al río. Amanece despacio. Y todo cambia. Todo está en continuo cambio. Para muchos, sería tan sólo una mera apariencia. ¿Lo es? ¿Necesito suponer que hay algo permanente, más estable, una especie de sustrato en el que ciertas propiedades abstractas se ejemplifican y otras dejan de hacerlo? ¿Necesito suponer que además del propio río hay una serie de propiedades que van dando color y forma a todos esos hilos de agua y remansos? ¿Es ésta la única manera de entender mi experiencia y mi conocimiento? ¿Es ésta la única manera de entenderme a mí mismo?...

I look at the river. The world slowly dawns. And everything changes. Everything is in flux. For many people, that would be only a mere appearance. But, is it? Do I need to assume that there is something more permanent, a kind of substrate in which certain abstract properties are exemplified and others fail to do so? Do I need to suppose that besides the river itself there are a number of properties that give color and shape to all those small streams and backwaters? Is this the only way to understand my experience and knowledge? Is this the only way to understand myself?...
